The Brief

Disrupting the wine industry required more than a better product. It demanded strategic repositioning for today’s health-conscious consumer. FitVine Wine came to Agency Squid with a clear brief. The goal was to reestablish brand relevance, scale retail distribution, and capture market share.

Speaking to Wellness-Driven Drinkers

The brand needed to reach wellness-driven drinkers across wine, beer, spirits, and hard seltzer. FitVine had strong product credentials, with fewer calories, less sugar, and no flavor additives. However, it needed a modern marketing approach to cut through legacy perceptions.

Building Growth Through Omnichannel Strategy

The work focused on both distributors and active lifestyle consumers. It was rooted in better-for-you alcohol trends and data-driven consumer insights. As a result, Agency Squid built omnichannel strategies to reignite growth in a competitive space.

Major Truth

At the time, wine was losing relevance with younger consumers. This was especially true for Millennials. Many saw wine as overpriced, out of touch, and lacking innovation. Meanwhile, spirits, beer, and hard seltzers felt more modern and exciting.

Identifying the Wellness Opportunity

Wellness trends were shifting consumer expectations. At the same time, interest in functional beverages was rising. However, the wine category failed to communicate clear value. It also struggled to show lifestyle alignment for modern drinkers.

Reframing What Wine Could Mean

The category’s legacy image created a barrier for emerging brands. As a result, it became harder to stand out without a bold brand narrative. FitVine’s better-for-you proposition gave Agency Squid a strong platform. It allowed the team to challenge old norms and reframe wine for health-conscious consumers.

Research

Trend Analysis

Trend analysis revealed a growing gap between consumer wellness priorities and the wine industry’s slow response. Meanwhile, the better-for-you movement was driving fast growth in hard seltzers, low-carb beers, and functional spirits. However, wine remained largely untouched by health-driven innovation and transparent labeling.

Reframing Wine for Health-Conscious Consumers

Consumers, especially Millennials and Gen X, wanted lower-calorie and lower-sugar options. They also wanted great taste and a strong social experience. Yet many wine brands were not meeting those expectations. As a result, FitVine found clear whitespace. It offered a clean-label, lifestyle-driven alternative that connected wellness trends with wine culture.

Audience & Persona Development

To unlock growth, Agency Squid built data-informed audience personas. These personas reflected changing priorities around health, social identity, and lifestyle alignment. The team identified wellness-minded consumers, mainly Millennials and Gen X. They were moderating alcohol intake, reading labels, and prioritizing fitness. However, they still wanted to enjoy wine.

Repositioning FitVine Around Lifestyle

These buyers were not traditional wine aficionados. Instead, they were cross-category drinkers comparing wine with hard seltzers and light beers. They judged products by calories, ingredients, and brand personality. Therefore, Agency Squid studied their motivations, behaviors, and social settings. As a result, the team created targeted messaging and creative. This repositioned FitVine as the wine that fits their life.

Positioning

Strategy

The new brand positioning made FitVine feel more approachable, inclusive, and modern. It also kept space to educate consumers. However, clinical benefits alone were not enough. The brand needed a stronger emotional connection rooted in empowerment, balance, and enjoyment.

This project shows how our brand strategy services help brands connect culture, creativity, and commercial growth.

Building a Lifestyle-Driven Wine Narrative

FitVine’s message became less about restriction and more about permission. It invited consumers to enjoy wine without compromise. As a result, Agency Squid built a lifestyle-driven narrative. This humanized the brand and connected education with aspiration. It also showed that wellness and wine could coexist.

Application

To bring the new positioning to life, Agency Squid developed bold omnichannel creative. The work helped break wine free from its buttoned-up past. Each spot reimagined wine moments through a wellness-first lens. It added humor, relatability, and movement to a category that often felt static and elitist.

Connecting Wine With Balanced Living

From gym bags to dinner tables, FitVine met consumers in real life. The content reached them where they lived, worked out, and socialized. As a result, wine felt more connected to a balanced lifestyle. The creative was also optimized for digital and social platforms. It was built to stop scrolls, create emotional connection, and engage younger drinkers.

The Work

Consumer-Focused

The consumer-facing work was designed to shift perception quickly and authentically. Agency Squid met audiences in the cultural spaces they already occupied. Instead of relying only on traditional wine marketing, the team used a digital-first strategy. This included influencer partnerships, earned media, and experiential moments to spark conversation and drive trial.

Positioning FitVine as a Lifestyle Choice

This approach helped FitVine appear in fitness communities, wellness circles, and social feeds. As a result, the brand felt more like a lifestyle choice than a product pitch. It increased engagement, expanded reach across categories, and created stronger emotional connection. FitVine became the wine for people who care about what goes in and what comes out of their body.

Trade-Focused

On the trade side, Agency Squid gave distributors and retailers stronger sales tools. The repositioning helped reframe wine within the better-for-you category. It clearly showed consumer demand and aligned FitVine with wellness-driven alcohol trends. As a result, trade partners saw FitVine as more than a wine.

Expanding Retail Growth for FitVine

FitVine became a category catalyst for health-conscious wine drinkers. The refreshed brand story supported stronger sales conversations. Meanwhile, dynamic sales tools and bold visual assets helped retailers create dedicated shelf space. As a result, national buyers and independent accounts began prioritizing the brand. This fueled wider distribution and stronger retail growth.
